PDS’s Previous Logo: Explained

Source: KomunikasiRakyat

18 JANUARY 2020

Parti Sosial Demokratik (PDS) recently issued a logo redesign as the previous logo is “too communist”. Well that’s what we got from the first media company who posted the news, Komunikasi Rakyat. Click here to view the post.

Journalists at Sinaran Network had processed the following logo. As you can see, the 6 person holding hands together forming a circle is a symbol for Social Democracy.

According to Wikipedia, Social democracy is a political, social and economic philosophy that supports economic and social interventions to promote social justice within the framework of a liberal democratic polity and a capitalist-oriented economy. Click here to view following Wikipedia Page.

However, if you take a look into the circle, you can see a red star. And what does that mean to the people? It means a lot. To certain people, the problem is clear ; The red star actually is a symbol of Communism and Socialism in the WWII era.

According to Wikipedia, red star, five-pointed and filled (★), is an important symbol often associated with communist ideology, particularly in combination with the hammer and sickle. Click here to view following Wikipedia Page.

As for now, PDS had changed their logo into a 14-pointed sun.

We believe that the 14-pointed Sun is from the Malaysian Flag (Jalur Gembilang). It may have a meaning, but here’s a guess from us: – The 5 people who are holding hands and forming a circle means unity – The 14-Pointed Sun may/may not be a symbol for Muslim – The 14-Pointed Sun may/may not means for the 14 States in Malaysia

We are quite positive for the Unity and State guess only. In summary, the logo (according to our guess above), is citizens of all 14-States will be united.
