The Election Act 2020 has been gazetted by the government, you can read it here. This article will cover things you need to know the most.
Requirements for Parties:
Registered with the Registrar of Societies
The Party must not be declared as an unlawful society by the Court
The Party must have at least half as many candidates as there are constituencies in the election
Requirements for Candidates:
Have been a citizen for at least 3 months
Never been imprisoned for any reason in connection with National Security unless pardoned by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong
Never been imprisoned for more than a month for any crime
Not to be an alternate account unless permitted by the SPR
Does not hold any executive position in foreign countries that may cause a conflict of interest
Does not hold a position in any foreign intelligence's agency
Indenpendent Candidates:
The SPR will give each Independent Candidate a symbol which shall be printed on the ballot paper opposite to the candidate's name.
Minimum Votes: All parties and independent candidates must attain at least 10% of the total valid votes vast to win any seats.
How are Seats counted? The formula below is used to count the number of seats won by either a party or an independent candidate.
S (Seats Won) = V (Votes for that Party) ÷ T (Total valid votes cast)
(Total number of seats - Number of Seats won by Indenpendents)
Note that votes for independent candidates will not be distributed, whether proportionally or otherwise.
