Pattani in Crisis

The Kingdom of Thailand [TH] recently declare State of Emergency in the region of Pattani due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Member of the public were ordered to wear masks and stay indoors.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) and Disaster Unit were deployed to the region to assist with the outbreak. Public Servants with PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) were spraying disinfectant all around the region.

To understand better on what’s happening in Pattani, Sinaran Network deployed the International Journalist Unit to Pattani to interview and experience the outbreak.

The Experience

From what we know, you can get infected by objects surrounding you (that are not disinfected). However, by the time we arrived, the surroundings were already disinfected. Thus, by the power of Admin, they agreed to use a tool to infect us.

When a person gets infected, they quickly shows symptoms and can be detected by a special thermometer.

Medical staff can treat the infected patients by using a special tool. The patient can be treated in a very short time.

Events Occurred

During the interview session with a fellow medical staff, 2 infected patients were bought into the ward. The entire ward was soon quarantined. Our staff member were told to leave too.

Q: In your own words, how do you think the situation at Pattani currently?

A: Critical, as the infection rate is increasing day by day, and our civil forces are trying to decrease it, however, the situation currently is unstable, we’re not sure what will happen in the future.

Q: Why did the Government decided to declare the State of Emergency?

A: As I’ve stated earlier, the situation currently is out of control and plus, they are currently also insurgent attacks which is also increasing rapidly. As our public services are working together to process the patients, the insurgents took opportunity to attack.

Q: Are the forces facing problems such as lack of manpower?

A: No, as out forces are trained for this, even though the situation currently is unstable, our forces are still handling this situation with their full abilities. I’m sure that the forces can hold it till the end.

Q: Is Pattani currently in lock-down?

A: Yes, as we fear that the virus might spread to other regions such as Bangkok, that’s why we currently putting Pattani in curfew. (Editor side note: we did asked him if Pattani is in lock-down, and he answered that it is in curfew)

And right after that last question, the curfew announcement was made. We were told to move to the Police Station for safety.
